The choir

The choir is affiliated to Making Music (formerly The National Federation of Music Societies)  and is a member of Bromsgrove Arts Alive.

As well as our two concerts a year members of the choir take part in many other choral events, some organised by Making Music West Midlands. For example some members sang in performances for massed choirs of the Verdi Requiem, Elgar’s Dream of Gerontius at Symphony Hall in Birmingham and Mendelssohn’s Elijah in Birmingham Town Hall, and have taken part in various choral workshops in Bromsgrove, Birmingham, Worcester and other local towns.  Choir members have also sung in performances of Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man, and a recording for the BBC Songs of Praise at All Saints Church Evesham. At Christmas sometimes we sing carols at a local Residential Home. In 2015 the Society hosted a choral workshop directed by David Lawrence to sing Bob Chilcott’s Requiem. In 2017 our second workshop was with Paul Brough to sing Handel’s Coronation Anthems.

The choir is under the musical direction of John Brierley.

At present our two concerts during the year take place  in the spring and at Christmas. We sing a wide selection of choral music, some of the great choral works and some not so well known.

We hold fund-raising and social events such as bring & buy sales, quizzes, garden parties, a weekly raffle and have an annual dinner.
